Our Story
Every story has a beginning. This is ours…
Our story began when two friends, who were already leading men within two separate faith-based communities, joined to run courses for men – to support them to find greater identity and purpose in their lives. Today, we are on a mission to reach more men in our communities, to support them at a local level, creating sustainable, affordable community programmes and removing as many barriers to participation as possible.
From the Forests to the Suburbs?
Our vision to improve the lives of local men began simply by taking a small group camping and learning basic bushcraft skills together. As those early experiences began to shape us, we felt a growing yearn to return to our own communities and share what we had learned. Our aim was to reach more men and build a team drawn from local people with lived experience, men who would benefit from stronger connection, support, and a greater sense of community.
Today, our work has grown to include men’s groups, resilience courses, peer mentorship, volunteer opportunities, leadership and skills development, confidence building, and accessible, affordable local activities; these include day trips to a nearby forest just outside Tile Hill, Coventry. Above all, we aim to help improve Men’s mental health, destroy despair, create friendships, belonging, and supportive community networks where men can grow and thrive together.
Why Roots of Resilience?
We are resolute in building upon our vision to grow more places that reaches more men, transforming more lives and connecting them with a greater sense of purpose through, meeting together, activities, outdoor pursuits, education and self-awareness, to develop better coping mechanisms and life skills.
